Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who had a stroke between 1 and 6 months ago
- People who have weakness on one side of their body (but not due to problems with the cerebellum, a part of the brain that controls balance and coordination)
- People who are able to walk at least 10 meters (with or without help from another person, a walking aid, or a brace below the knee), but whose walking speed is slower than 1 meter per second
- People who can sit without using their arms for support or needing someone to help them, for at least 30 seconds

- People who have been cleared to participate by a supervising doctor or medical provider, and who have given their consent to join
- People who are able to give their own consent, or who have a legally appointed representative who can consent on their behalf
Who may not be able to join:
- People with serious heart, metabolic, or breathing conditions that prevent them from exercising safely — for example, a heart attack within the last 3 months, uncontrolled heart failure, very high resting blood pressure (above 210/110 mmHg), uncontrolled diabetes, advanced kidney disease, severe infection, serious psychiatric illness, or advanced cancer
- People who show certain warning signs during an initial treadmill exercise assessment that require the test to be stopped — such as moderate to severe chest pain or specific abnormal heart readings (confirm with trial site)
- People who had a bone, joint, or neurological condition before their stroke that already limited their ability to walk more than 50 meters
- People who are receiving physical therapy once the baseline testing period has begun
- People who are prescribed botulinum toxin (a muscle-relaxing injection) in leg muscles above the knee at a dose higher than 50 units in any single muscle — note that people receiving higher doses in muscles below the knee may still be considered, but would be required to wear an ankle-foot brace during the trial (confirm with trial site)
