AI generated eligibility summary. Written by an AI model from the official source data and checked on a sample basis. It can contain mistakes, so confirm anything important against the original source. How we use AI

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have been diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma (a specific type of cancer) of the esophagus (food pipe), confirmed by a tissue test
  • People whose esophageal tumor is located in the chest area
  • People whose cancer is at a specific stage before treatment — broadly meaning the tumor is locally advanced but has not spread to distant parts of the body (confirm with trial site for exact staging details)
  • People aged between 18 and 75 years old
  • People who are generally able to carry out daily activities with little or no restriction, as measured by a standard medical scale (ECOG score of 0 or 1)
  • People whose heart is functioning adequately, based on an ECG test — and, where relevant, an additional heart scan showing the heart pumping at least 50% efficiency
  • People whose lungs are functioning adequately, based on breathing tests meeting specific minimum levels (confirm with trial site for exact values)
  • People whose bone marrow is producing enough blood cells, based on blood test results meeting specific minimum levels
  • People whose liver is functioning adequately, based on blood test results within acceptable ranges
  • People whose kidneys are functioning adequately, based on blood test results within acceptable ranges
  • People who have given written consent and are willing and able to follow the study requirements

Who may not be able to join:

  • People whose esophageal cancer is not the squamous cell carcinoma type
  • People whose cancer is at an advanced stage that cannot be surgically removed, or has spread to other parts of the body
  • People whose cancer is at an early stage (before treatment stage cT1–2N0–1M0) (confirm with trial site)
  • People whose cancer has spread to several nearby lymph nodes, or whose tumor has grown into surrounding structures in a way that cannot be surgically removed
  • People who have, or have previously had, another cancer that may interfere with treatment or assessment in the opinion of the treating doctor
  • People with significant health conditions that make it unlikely they could tolerate the treatments — for example, serious heart disease, a heart attack within the past 12 months, significant lung disease, or significant problems with bone marrow, liver, or kidney function
  • Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or capable of becoming pregnant and not willing to use contraception during the trial
  • People with an allergy to any of the drugs used in the trial
  • People who are currently taking part in, or have taken part in within the last 30 days, another clinical trial involving a treatment that could interfere with this study
  • People who are considered unlikely to be able to follow the study requirements
