Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 or older, of any gender
- People who have been diagnosed with Barrett's oesophagus, where a camera examination of the food pipe shows a specific salmon-coloured lining of at least 1 cm in length, and tissue samples from that area show particular cell changes (columnar metaplasia with goblet cells)
- People whose tissue samples, taken within the past 12 months, show Barrett's oesophagus with low grade dysplasia (an early, mild level of abnormal cell changes)
- People whose low grade dysplasia diagnosis has been confirmed by an expert panel of specialist tissue doctors, based on samples taken within the past 12 months
- People who have been able to tolerate a type of stomach acid-reducing medication called a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), based on their own report
- People who are able to safely pause blood-thinning or anti-clotting medications around the time of the procedures, in line with standard medical guidelines
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are pregnant
- People who have previously had any endoscopic (camera-based) treatment to remove or destroy Barrett's oesophagus tissue
- People with a history of high grade dysplasia (a more serious level of abnormal cell changes) or oesophageal cancer detected after a previous camera examination
- People who have had surgery to remove part or all of their food pipe
- People with active, significant inflammation of the food pipe lining (confirm with trial site) — though eligibility may be reconsidered once that condition has resolved
- People with narrowing of the food pipe that prevents the camera or treatment tools from passing through — though eligibility may be reconsidered once the narrowing has been treated or resolved
- People with enlarged veins in the food pipe (oesophageal varices) or a condition of high blood pressure in the liver's blood vessels (portal hypertension)
- People whose life expectancy is estimated to be less than 2 years, as assessed by the trial doctor at the site
