Who might be able to join this trial:

• You are between 18 and 80 years old and are generally able to carry out daily activities with little or no limitation.
• You have been diagnosed with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (a type of esophageal cancer) that cannot be removed by surgery, has come back, or has spread to other parts of the body.
• You have not received any previous systemic (whole-body) treatment for this cancer, OR your cancer came back more than 6 months after completing an earlier course of chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
• You have already received at least one cycle of a specific type of treatment combining immunotherapy (anti-PD-1) with chemotherapy as your first-line treatment.
• None of your currently known tumors have previously been treated with local treatments such as radiation, surgery, or a procedure called radiofrequency ablation before joining the trial.
• You have at least one measurable tumor that can be tracked and assessed during the trial.
• Your doctors estimate you are likely to survive for more than 12 weeks.
• Your blood counts, liver, kidney, and other organ functions meet specific healthy ranges as tested in a blood test (confirm with trial site for exact values).
• If you are a woman who could become pregnant, you have had a negative pregnancy test within 72 hours before joining, and you agree to use reliable contraception throughout the trial.
• You are willing to take part voluntarily and have signed a consent form (or a legal representative has done so on your behalf).

Who may not be able to join:

• You have previously received any immunotherapy treatments (treatments that use your immune system to fight cancer).
• You have taken part in another clinical drug trial within the last 4 weeks.
• You are still experiencing significant side effects from a previous cancer treatment that have not improved to a mild level (except for hair loss).
• You have brain tumours that are not under control, or cancer that has spread to the spine and is pressing on the spinal cord.
• You have uncontrolled fluid build-up around the lungs, heart, or pelvis that needs to be drained repeatedly.
• You have a history of a weakened immune system, or other serious health conditions that are not well managed and could interfere with the trial treatment.
• You have been diagnosed with another type of cancer within the past 5 years, unless it was a very low-risk skin cancer or early-stage cervical cancer that has been successfully treated.
