Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are at least 21 years old
- People who had a stroke at least 6 months before joining the study
- People whose balance score on a standard test called the Berg Balance Scale is below 52 (a lower score indicates more difficulty with balance)
- People who are able to stand on their own for at least 1 minute without wearing a leg or foot brace that would cover the ankle or bottom of the foot
- People who are willing and able to give their formal agreement to take part in the trial
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose resting blood pressure is higher than 220/110 mmHg
- People with a history of certain unstable heart conditions, including irregular heartbeats, a thickened heart muscle, severe narrowing of the aortic valve, chest pain, or shortness of breath at rest or during everyday activities
- People who have a pre-existing neurological condition or dementia (other than the stroke)
- People with severe vision impairment
- People who have had a blood clot in the leg (DVT) or lungs within the past 6 months
- People with poorly controlled diabetes that has recently caused significant weight loss, diabetic coma, or frequent dangerous drops in blood sugar
