Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis (wear-and-tear joint disease) in one or both hips or knees, confirmed by an X-ray showing a certain level of joint damage, where the condition has been causing pain for at least 3 months.
• People who experience pain when walking that rates at least 4 out of 10 in intensity.
• People who currently do fewer than 3 walks of at least 20 minutes (or 1,000 steps) per week.
• People who are able to understand the study instructions and complete the questionnaires involved.

Who may not be able to join:

• People who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• People who are under legal guardianship or court-ordered protection.
• People who weigh less than 40 kg or are classified as underweight.
• People who weigh more than 120 kg or are classified as obese.
• People who are unable to walk at all, or who cannot walk without the use of major support devices (note: walking sticks, crutches, braces, and knee supports are allowed).
• People whose osteoarthritis is caused by another underlying condition, such as rheumatoid arthritis, a joint infection, gout, or certain metabolic disorders, rather than general wear and tear.
• People who have another bone disease affecting the whole body, such as Paget's disease.
• People who have another significant source of pain unrelated to osteoarthritis, such as nerve pain or fibromyalgia.
• People who have recently had a procedure — such as surgery, keyhole joint surgery, or a joint injection — that would be expected to reduce their osteoarthritis pain during the study period.
• People who have a similar joint procedure planned during the study period.
• People who have recently started a new pain-relief medication, including steroid tablets or injections.
• People who have plans to start a pain-relief program during the study period, such as physiotherapy or cognitive behavioural therapy.
• People who have major surgery planned during the study period.
• People who currently have cancer.
• People whose immune system is suppressed (for example, due to medication or illness).
• People who have an autoimmune disease.
• People who are currently using anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs) applied to the skin or taken by mouth.
• People who regularly take strong opioid pain medications.
• People who are currently on insulin therapy.
• People for whom anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs) or paracetamol (acetaminophen) are medically unsuitable, according to French medicines authority guidelines.
