Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 to 60 years old
- People who can understand spoken English well enough to follow the testing procedures
- People who have been diagnosed with schizophrenia (based on the DSM-5 criteria, confirmed through a clinical interview)
- People who have been clinically stable — meaning no hospital stays for psychiatric reasons in the past 6 months, and no changes to their psychiatric medication in the past 6 months
Who may not be able to join:
- People with a history of aggressive or suicidal behaviour during a psychotic episode
- People with a history of an IQ below 70 or a developmental disability, based on their medical history
- People with a significant neurological condition (such as epilepsy) or a significant heart condition (such as an irregular heartbeat), based on their medical history
- People with a history of a serious head injury — for example, losing consciousness for more than an hour, lasting thinking or memory problems after a head injury, or having received cognitive rehabilitation after a head injury
- People who have had a substance use disorder or alcohol use disorder in the past six months
- People who have taken sedatives or benzodiazepines (a type of calming medication) within 24 hours before testing
- People whose urine test comes back positive for drugs, or who appear visibly intoxicated on the day of assessment
- People who are pregnant or think they may be pregnant, based on self-report and a urine test
- People who are currently taking SSRIs or SNRIs (certain types of antidepressant medications)
- People with a history of Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS) or serotonin syndrome (serious reactions to certain medications) (confirm with trial site)
- People whose heart trace (ECG) shows a specific abnormality called a prolonged QTc interval (confirm with trial site)
