Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Adults between 18 and 70 years old (any gender) who are able to drink liquids
  • People who have been diagnosed with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (a specific type of oesophageal cancer) confirmed by a tissue test
  • People whose cancer has been assessed as not suitable for surgery, or who have chosen not to have surgery

  • People whose blood count and organ function results fall within specific acceptable ranges, including adequate levels of haemoglobin, white blood cells, neutrophils, and platelets, and normal-range liver and kidney function results (confirm with trial site)
  • People who are able to understand the study and have signed a consent form

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have had, or currently have, a cancer in another part of the body
  • People with more than one separate cancer occurring in the oesophagus at the same time
  • People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • People who are able to have children but are not using contraception
  • People with serious ongoing health conditions, including very high-risk high blood pressure, severe lung problems, a recent major heart attack, significant heart failure (Grade II or above), a history of mental illness, or severe diabetes
  • People currently experiencing an active infectious disease
  • People currently participating in, or who have participated in, another clinical trial within the four weeks before joining
  • People currently receiving other cancer treatments, including anti-cancer traditional Chinese medicine
  • People who have had an oesophageal stent placed
  • People whose cancer shows signs that it may be at risk of causing a perforation (a tear or hole in the oesophagus)
  • People who have had an organ transplant
  • People whose cancer has spread widely to other parts of the body, such as the lungs, liver, bones, or brain
  • People known or suspected to be allergic to chemotherapy drugs
  • People who, in the treating doctor's judgement, have other conditions that could seriously affect their safety or their ability to complete the study
