- People with severe facial injury, including damage to the bone that separates the brain from the nasal cavity
- People with a latex allergy or a sensitivity to local anaesthetic medications
- People who are unable to give informed consent, including those with significant cognitive impairment
- People who have consumed alcohol within 12 hours before a study visit
- People who currently smoke
- People with a history of early menopause (before age 45)
- People who are pregnant or who wish to become pregnant during the trial
