Who might be able to join this trial:
For children with acute leukemia (AL):
- The child has been newly diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic or myeloblastic leukemia (two types of blood cancer)
- The child has not yet received any treatment for their blood condition
- The child is between 1 and 15 years old
- Both parents, or the person who holds legal parental responsibility, have signed an informed consent form

Who may not be able to join:
For children with acute leukemia (AL):
- The child is under 1 year old or over 15 years old
- There is a medical reason why a bone marrow test cannot be performed on the child (confirm with trial site)
- Both parents or the legal parental guardian have not signed the consent form
- The child's leukemia has come back after a previous period of treatment or remission
- The child has already received treatment for a blood condition
- A parent or legal guardian has a physical or mental health condition that prevents them from understanding the consent form
For the control group (children without leukemia):
- The child is under 1 year old or over 15 years old
- The child has an existing blood or bone marrow condition
- Both parents or the legal parental guardian have not signed the consent form
- The child has previously received treatment that could affect bone marrow function
- A parent or legal guardian has a physical or mental health condition that prevents them from understanding the consent form
