Who might be able to join this trial:
- Women aged 18 or older
- People whose general health and ability to carry out daily activities meets a minimum threshold score on a standard oncology scale (confirm with trial site)
- People who have been diagnosed with breast cancer through a needle biopsy, where the cancer has not yet been treated and cannot be felt by hand — including certain types of cancer confined to the breast tissue, or early invasive breast cancer that requires a guided localization procedure before surgery
- People who are willing to have breast-conserving surgery (surgery that removes the tumour while keeping most of the breast) and have no medical reasons preventing this
Who may not be able to join:
- People diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer or Paget's disease of the breast
- People with breast abnormalities or other conditions that could reduce the chances of successful breast-conserving surgery
- People who have medical reasons that prevent them from having breast-conserving surgery, or who have serious systemic illnesses, mental health conditions, or other personal circumstances that could affect their ability to take part — including people with serious bleeding or clotting disorders
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who have already had a localisation device placed in the breast cancer area (such as a hookwire or radioactive seed) before joining the trial
- People whose cancer has spread to other parts of the body (stage IV), or whose tumours cannot be surgically removed
- People with other existing conditions that may affect their life expectancy
- People with cancer in multiple separate areas of the breast, or with a tumour larger than 5 cm as shown on imaging
- People who have previously had a full breast removal (mastectomy) on the same side, or radiation therapy to the chest wall
