Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Adults aged 18 or older who have had a non-traumatic brain bleed (bleeding inside the brain not caused by an injury) and who arrived for treatment within 4.5 hours of their symptoms starting.

Who may not be able to join:

  • People whose brain bleed was caused by blood thinning medications, clot-dissolving medications, abnormal blood vessels (such as an arteriovenous malformation or aneurysm), a brain tumour, a blood clot in a brain vein, or an inherited blood clotting disorder.
  • People who have a medical reason why they cannot receive the study drug, tranexamic acid (TXA).
  • People who are already taking part in another clinical trial.
  • People whose life expectancy before the stroke was less than 3 months (for example, due to advanced cancer that has spread through the body).
  • People who are in a very deep state of unconsciousness, as measured by a standard medical scoring tool called the Glasgow Coma Scale (a score of 5 or below).
  • People whose brain bleed was caused by a physical injury or trauma.
  • Women who could potentially become pregnant, who are currently pregnant, or who are breastfeeding at the time of enrolment.
  • People for whom follow-up contact at 90 days would not be possible due to location or other practical reasons.
  • People who are already receiving, or are planned to receive, other medications that help stop bleeding.
  • People whose brain bleed is larger than 60 mL in volume, as measured using a standard medical calculation method.
