Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 years or older
- People who have had a carotid artery ultrasound or other imaging that showed a narrowing of 60% or more in a carotid artery (the arteries in the neck that supply blood to the brain), but who have no symptoms from this narrowing
- People whose surgeon has already planned treatment using either medications alone, or medications combined with a surgical procedure called carotid endarterectomy (a surgery to clear the blocked artery)
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are unable to read, understand, or sign a consent form
- People whose overall health condition the trial doctor considers too unstable to safely participate
- People who are unable to lie flat and still on their back with arms at their sides for up to 60 minutes, as required for the brain and body scan used in this study
- People who have previously had surgery or a stent procedure on the same side carotid artery being studied
- People who have had a stroke or a mini-stroke (sometimes called a TIA) in the past 6 months
- People who are unwilling or unable to follow the study procedures or attend all required visits for the full length of the study
- People for whom MRI scanning is not safe, for example those with a pacemaker, certain metal implants, or severe claustrophobia (confirm with trial site for full list)
- People who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding. Women who could become pregnant must have a negative pregnancy test recorded within 24 hours before receiving the study's imaging agent. Women who have gone through menopause (no periods for 12 or more months) or have had their ovaries and/or uterus surgically removed may not be subject to this requirement (confirm with trial site)
