  • People whose dementia has been rated at a certain level of severity using a standard scale called the Clinical Dementia Rating (score of 0.5 or above).
  • People whose delayed memory recall score falls below a certain threshold, which varies depending on how many years of education they have completed (confirm with trial site for exact details).

For people with Alzheimer's disease AND psychotic symptoms (in addition to the criteria above):

  • People who experience visual or auditory hallucinations, such as seeing people, children, or animals that are not there, or hearing things others cannot hear.
  • People who hold strong false beliefs, such as believing a partner is being unfaithful, that belongings are being stolen, or that they are not who they claim to be.

For cognitively healthy participants:

  • People between 65 and 85 years old with no known genetic risk factors for dementia.
  • People who have no concerns or complaints about their own memory or thinking.
  • People whose MMSE score is 26 or above.

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who score above 4 on a standard scale used to assess blood-flow-related brain changes (confirm with trial site).
  • People with a history of stroke.
  • People with a significant neurological condition other than Alzheimer's disease, including insulin-dependent type 2 diabetes, heart or cardiovascular disease history, epilepsy, a serious head injury involving more than 15 minutes of unconsciousness, a movement disorder, an autoimmune disease affecting the brain or nervous system, or a history of delirium.
  • People with a significant or unstable mental health condition, including schizophrenia, other psychotic disorders, bipolar disorder, delirium, or currently active major depression.
  • People with a history of alcohol or drug dependency or misuse within the past five years.
  • People who have metal implants in their body, such as a pacemaker, ear implants, or bullet or shrapnel fragments.
  • People who are unable to lie flat for approximately one hour.
  • People whose hearing does not meet the minimum level required on a specific hearing test. People who use hearing aids may still be considered if their hearing meets the minimum requirements.
