Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You have been referred for an MRI scan with contrast dye (an injected MRI) because giant cell arteritis (GCA) is suspected
- Your doctors suspect you may have GCA based on a combination of signs — either three "major" signs or two "major" plus one "minor" sign from the lists below:
- Major signs: being over 50 years old; a new type of headache; pain or cramping in the jaw, tongue, or difficulty swallowing; vision problems such as sudden vision loss, double vision, or blurred vision; or blood test results showing high levels of inflammation markers
- Minor signs: tenderness, thickening, or lumps on the scalp away from the temples; abnormal feel of the temporal artery (the artery near your temple) when touched; facial pain or a feeling of swelling in the face; general symptoms such as fever above 38°C, losing more than 10% of your body weight, loss of appetite, tiredness, or generally feeling unwell
- You are willing and able to give your consent to take part in the study
- You are covered by a social security or health insurance plan (French system)
Who may not be able to join:
- You have been diagnosed with a cancer or malignant disease within the last year
- You currently have an active infection
- You have been diagnosed with certain autoimmune or inflammatory conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, or certain types of blood vessel inflammation (confirm with trial site for the full list)
- You have been taking high-dose steroid medication (such as prednisone at a high dose) for more than 10 days
- You have a reason why you cannot safely have an MRI scan (for example, certain metal implants or severe claustrophobia)
- You are under a legal protection measure or guardianship arrangement
- You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
