Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have had a cerebral stroke and are over 20 years old
- People who have muscle stiffness (spasticity) in the foot/ankle muscles that point the foot downward, rated above 1 on a standard medical scale called the Modified Ashworth Scale
- People whose basic body signs (such as heart rate and blood pressure) are stable
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have had more than one stroke, a brain injury from an accident, a brain tumour, or any other brain-related condition
- People who have another condition affecting the brain or spinal cord (such as spinal cord injury or Parkinson's disease), or a bone, muscle, or joint problem that could affect how muscle stiffness is measured
- People who have a malignant (cancerous) tumour, a blood clotting disorder, an active infection, or who have a pacemaker, as these conditions may make the shock wave treatment used in this trial unsuitable (confirm with trial site)
- People who have received shock wave therapy or Botulinum toxin (commonly known as Botox) injections for foot/ankle muscle stiffness within the past 3 months
- People who are unable to complete the treatment sessions or assessments due to difficulties with thinking, understanding, or communication
