Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 to 75 years old at the time of joining the study
- People who have been diagnosed with acute pancreatitis (a sudden inflammation of the pancreas) based on specific medical criteria — this means having at least two of the following: upper abdominal pain, blood enzyme levels (amylase or lipase) at least three times higher than normal, or medical imaging showing signs of acute pancreatitis
- People who are contacted by the research team within 36 hours of arriving at the hospital

Who may not be able to join:
- People who have already been diagnosed with definite chronic pancreatitis (long-term, ongoing pancreas inflammation), confirmed by CT scan, MRI, or a related imaging test showing calcium deposits or certain blockages in the pancreas
- People whose acute pancreatitis was caused by a medical procedure called ERCP and who are expected to stay in hospital for less than 48 hours
- People who have a pancreatic tumour, including certain types of cancer or tumours that have spread to the pancreas
- People who have a certain type of cyst on the pancreas that is believed to be causing their pancreatitis or is linked to a widened pancreatic duct (confirm with trial site)
- People who have previously had surgery on the pancreas, such as removal of part or all of the pancreas or related procedures
- People with serious ongoing health conditions that the research team believes could affect the study results or put the person at greater risk — this includes a history of organ transplant, AIDS, active cancer treatment within the past 12 months (except certain minor skin cancers), severe kidney disease or dialysis, liver cirrhosis, or any condition the site doctor believes means a life expectancy of less than 12 months
- People who are known to be pregnant at the time of joining the study
- People who are currently incarcerated
- People with any other condition or circumstance that the research team believes could affect their safety or the reliability of the study results
