Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 18 and 60 years old
- You are willing and able to give written consent to take part in the study
- You have a confirmed diagnosis of anorexia nervosa (restrictive type) with a BMI between 10 and 16, OR you are a healthy volunteer with a BMI between 19 and 24.9 who is a similar age and sex to one of the patients in the study
Who may not be able to join:
- You have taken antibiotics in the last 31 days
- You currently use illegal drugs, or use marijuana or CBD products every day (drinking up to 24g of alcohol per day is noted as acceptable)
- You have a serious long-term illness other than anorexia nervosa (for example, active cancer)
- You have severely reduced kidney function caused by a condition other than anorexia nervosa (confirm with trial site)
- You have severe liver scarring (cirrhosis) or other serious liver problems caused by a condition other than anorexia nervosa
- You have had an upper respiratory tract infection (such as a heavy cold or sinus infection) in the last 31 days
- You have a thyroid condition that is not currently well controlled
- You have high blood pressure that is not currently well controlled
- You are currently pregnant, breastfeeding, or undergoing IVF treatment
- You are unable to understand the study information or follow the study procedures, for example due to language barriers, psychological difficulties, or memory problems
