Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 40 years or older
- People whose stroke began within the past 2 weeks
- People whose stroke severity score (a standardised medical rating scale called the NIHSS) was 16 or below at the start
- People whose stroke has been confirmed as an ischemic stroke (caused by a blocked blood vessel, not bleeding) by a CT or MRI brain scan
- People who had little to no disability before their stroke, based on a standard functional scale (called the mRS, with a score of 1 or lower)
- People whose arteries in the neck on the affected side (including the internal carotid artery and vertebral artery) show 50% or less narrowing

- People who have given signed consent to participate in the trial
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose CT scan shows bleeding in the brain
- People who are unable to have an MRI scan for any reason, or who are unable to complete the required MRI scan sequences
- People who have a brain tumour, an abnormal tangle of blood vessels in the brain (arteriovenous malformation), or a brain aneurysm
- People who have another serious illness where life expectancy is less than one year
- People who are pregnant
- People whom the trial researchers consider unsuitable for the study for other reasons (confirm with trial site)
