Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are 18 years of age or older
- People who have weakness on one side of the body following a first stroke that occurred more than 1 year ago
- People whose affected arm has enough movement to reach out to about 90% of the distance between their hand and shoulder
- People who have mild or no muscle stiffness in the elbow bending muscles, rated between 0 and 2 on a standard stiffness scale
- People who are covered by social security
- People who have signed a consent form agreeing to take part in the research
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are unable to sign a written consent form
- People whose elbow remains bent by more than 30 degrees when the arm is gently moved by someone else
- People who have pain in the affected arm rated above 3 out of 10 (on a standard pain scale), either at rest or during movement
- People who have a complete loss of the ability to sense the position of their affected arm
- People who have previously had surgery on the affected arm to treat muscle stiffness, such as nerve cutting, tendon cutting, or tendon transfer procedures
- Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
