Who might be able to join this trial:
Phase 1 (System Design & Feasibility Study)
- People who have had a stroke on one side of the brain only
- People between 20 and 80 years old
- People whose arm movement after stroke falls within a specific range, as measured by a standard assessment called the Fugl-Meyer Upper Extremity scale (score of 20 to 60)
- People who are able to follow instructions and describe their experience verbally during the study
Phase 2 (Treatment Comparison Study)
- People who have had a stroke on one side of the brain only
- People who are more than 6 months past their stroke
- People between 20 and 80 years old
- People whose arm movement after stroke falls within a specific range, as measured by a standard assessment called the Fugl-Meyer Upper Extremity scale (score of 20 to 60)
- People who are able to follow instructions and take part in assessments and treatment sessions
Who may not be able to join:
Both Phases
- People who have been diagnosed with a severe type of communication or language difficulty that affects understanding (known as global or receptive aphasia)
- People who have a severe condition affecting their awareness of one side of their body or surroundings (known as severe neglect)
- People who have significant other health conditions that could affect arm use, cause pain, or interfere with their ability to see or hear properly during the study
