Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa according to current diagnostic standards (DSM-5)
- You are between 18 and 30 years old
- You are female
- You are right-handed
- Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is 16.0 or above
- You have been voluntarily admitted to the inpatient eating disorders unit at NYSPI
- You are able to understand and agree to participate in the study on your own
- You speak English
- You are in a medically stable condition
Who may not be able to join:
- You are considered to be at high risk of suicide
- You currently have a substance use problem or another psychiatric condition that needs its own specialist treatment (such as psychosis)
- You have a serious medical or neurological condition, or take medication that significantly raises the risk of having a seizure or could affect the study results (for example, unstable high blood pressure or a seizure disorder)
- You have food allergies or restrictions that would rule out more than 30% of the food choices used in the study's tasks
- You have a non-removable metal object inside your body (such as a pacemaker), non-removable metal jewellery, a medicinal skin patch, or a recent tattoo done with metallic ink
- You have a history of seizures
- You have been diagnosed with epilepsy, stroke, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, Alzheimer's disease or other brain-degenerating conditions, certain brain infections, or certain brain cancers
- You have previously had treatment with TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation — a type of brain stimulation therapy)
- You are currently pregnant
- You are currently breastfeeding
- You experience significant claustrophobia (severe fear of enclosed spaces)
- You have any implanted devices or stimulators inside your body
- You have hearing loss, are being treated with medications known to damage hearing, or have a cochlear implant
