Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have had ongoing knee pain for at least 6 months, with pain rated 4 or higher out of 10 at its worst
- People diagnosed with moderate knee osteoarthritis (Grade II or III on a standard medical scale called the Kellgren Lawrence Classification) with a joint space of 1–3 mm remaining
- People whose leg alignment, as shown on an X-ray, is within 5 degrees of straight (not significantly bowed or knock-kneed)
- People whose osteoarthritis affects the inner side, outer side, or both sides of the knee joint
- People with a Body Mass Index (BMI) below 35
- People who speak Danish
- People who are legally able to make their own decisions and can sign a written consent form
Who may not be able to join:
- People with very severe knee osteoarthritis (Grade IV on the Kellgren Lawrence scale)
- People with a tumour, infection, or fracture inside the knee joint
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People with significant cognitive impairment (difficulties with thinking or memory)
- People currently being treated with chemotherapy drugs
- People who have had an injection directly into the knee joint within the past 3 months
- People who are unable to have an MRI scan — for example, due to incompatible implants, claustrophobia, or a BMI over 35
- People who have previously had ligament reconstruction surgery on the knee
- People who have had more than half of a meniscus removed, or who have had more than one meniscus removal operation
- People with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes
- People whose knee shows instability during a physical examination
- People with a known allergy to antibiotics
- People with a serious active infection, a malignant tumour, a blood clotting disorder, or a systemic disease that is not well controlled
- People who have another type of inflammatory joint disease (such as rheumatoid arthritis)
