Who might be able to join this trial:

• People aged between 35 and 75 years old (inclusive)
• People who have been diagnosed with either an ischemic stroke (caused by a blockage) or a hemorrhagic stroke (caused by bleeding), where the stroke affected the left side of the brain, and the stroke occurred between 15 days and 6 months ago
• People whose stroke has caused a language or communication difficulty, as measured by a specific language assessment tool called the Chinese version of the Western Aphasia Battery, with a score below 93.8
• People who are experiencing their first-ever stroke
• People whose language was normal before their stroke, whose first language is Chinese, and who have had at least 6 years of schooling
• People who understand the trial and have signed a consent form agreeing to take part

Who may not be able to join:

• People who also have a speech muscle control problem called dysarthria, based on a specific score on a standard stroke scale
• People whose language difficulties are caused by something other than a single-hemisphere stroke, such as a brain tumour, head injury, Parkinson's disease, motor neuron disease, or a stroke affecting both sides of the brain
• People who have an implanted electronic device such as a pacemaker or cochlear implant, any metal objects in the body, a fear of enclosed spaces (claustrophobia), or any other reason they cannot safely have an MRI scan or a brain stimulation treatment called TMS
• People with a history of epilepsy or seizures
• People with serious ongoing conditions affecting the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, or other major organs that are not well controlled by standard medication, as confirmed by tests
• People who have a reduced level of consciousness, based on a specific score on a standard stroke scale
• People with severely high blood pressure that is difficult to control (malignant hypertension)
• People with a serious illness such as advanced cancer, where life expectancy is estimated to be less than one year
• People with severe hearing loss, severe vision problems, significant memory or thinking difficulties, or who are otherwise unable to participate in the trial activities
• People with severe depression, severe anxiety, or another diagnosed mental health condition that would prevent them from completing the trial
• People who have received brain stimulation treatments such as TMS or transcranial electrical stimulation within the 3 months before joining the trial
• People with a history of alcohol dependence, drug misuse, or other substance misuse
• People who have other findings that the research team considers would make participation unsuitable (confirm with trial site)
• People who would be unable to attend all required follow-up visits due to location or other practical reasons
• Women who are currently pregnant, breastfeeding, or who are planning to become pregnant or may become pregnant during the trial
• People who are currently taking part in another clinical trial
