Who might be able to join this trial:

• People aged between 35 and 75 years old (including those who are exactly 35 or 75).
• People who have been diagnosed with either an ischemic stroke (caused by a blocked blood vessel) or a hemorrhagic stroke (caused by bleeding in the brain), where the affected area is on the left side of the brain, and whose stroke occurred between 15 days and 6 months ago.
• People who have been assessed as having aphasia (difficulty with language) using a standardised Chinese language test called the Western Aphasia Battery, with a score below 93.8.
• People who are experiencing their first-ever stroke.
• People whose language ability was normal before the stroke, whose first language is Chinese, and who have had at least 6 years of schooling.
• People who understand the trial and have signed a consent form agreeing to participate.

Who may not be able to join:

• People who have difficulty with the physical act of speaking (called dysarthria), based on a specific scoring measure (confirm with trial site).
• People whose aphasia is caused by something other than a single-hemisphere stroke, such as a brain tumour, head injury, Parkinson's disease, or motor neuron disease.
• People who have an implanted electronic device such as a pacemaker or cochlear implant, any metal objects in their body, a fear of enclosed spaces (claustrophobia), or other reasons that would prevent MRI scanning or a brain stimulation treatment called TMS.
• People with a history of epilepsy or seizures.
• People with serious ongoing conditions affecting the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, or other organs that are not well controlled by standard medication.
• People with a reduced level of consciousness, based on a specific clinical score (confirm with trial site).
• People with severely high blood pressure that is difficult to control (malignant hypertension).
• People with a serious illness such as cancer where life expectancy is estimated to be less than one year.
• People with severe hearing loss, vision problems, cognitive (thinking or memory) difficulties, or who are otherwise unable to participate in the trial activities.
• People with severe depression, anxiety, or another diagnosed mental health condition that would prevent them from completing the trial.
• People who have received brain stimulation treatments such as TMS or transcranial electrical stimulation in the 3 months before joining the trial.
• People with a history of heavy alcohol use, drug misuse, or other substance abuse.
• People who are unable to attend follow-up visits due to where they live or other practical reasons.
• People whose situation includes other findings that the research team considers unsuitable for participation (confirm with trial site).
• Women who are currently pregnant, breastfeeding, or who are planning to become pregnant or may become pregnant during the trial.
• People who are currently enrolled in another clinical trial.
