Who might be able to join this trial:
- Be between 18 and 70 years old
- Have not received any treatment before surgery, such as radiation therapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, or immunotherapy
- Have been diagnosed through a tissue biopsy with a specific type of esophageal cancer (squamous cell carcinoma) in the chest area, where the cancer has also spread to nearby lymph nodes but not to distant parts of the body
- Be scheduled to have surgery to remove the esophagus with the goal of curing the cancer
- Be generally well enough to carry out light daily activities (confirm with trial site)
- Have no signs that the cancer has come back before starting the additional treatment after surgery
- Have normal heart rate and blood pressure readings before joining the trial
- Be able to understand what the study involves and have signed a consent form agreeing to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- Have had, or currently have, any other type of cancer
- Have a lung condition involving scarring or inflammation of the lung tissue
- Need to regularly take steroid medications or other medicines that suppress the immune system
- Have a known or suspected allergy to chemotherapy drugs or to the study drug Tislelizumab
- Have an active condition where the immune system attacks the body (such as lupus or rheumatoid arthritis)
- Currently have active hepatitis (liver infection)
- Have been assessed by the study doctor as not suitable to take part, for any reason (confirm with trial site)
