Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (UC) — either previously or newly — and need to be admitted to hospital because of a moderate to severe flare-up
- You are between 18 and 85 years old
- You are able to fully take part in all parts of the trial
- You are able to receive your first hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) session within the first 48 hours of starting intravenous (IV) steroids
- You agree not to join any other clinical trial during the active treatment period of this study
Who may not be able to join:
- You have previously received hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), whether as a standard treatment or through another clinical trial
- You have a complication that requires urgent surgery
- You need to start a new biologic or small molecule medication during your hospital stay before being enrolled, or you are expected to need emergency medical or surgical treatment within 48 hours of being enrolled
- You have a condition called toxic megacolon (a serious complication where the colon becomes severely enlarged)
- You are unable to receive IV (intravenous) steroids
- You have previously tried and failed, or been treated with, four or more different classes of advanced therapies for your condition
- You have been diagnosed with, or are suspected to have, a different type of colitis — such as Crohn's colitis, indeterminate colitis, ischemic colitis, radiation colitis, colitis related to diverticular disease, microscopic colitis, or infectious colitis
- You have taken any experimental or investigational medication within the last 30 days
- You have a significant heart, kidney, neurological, hormonal, breathing, or liver condition that could increase the risk of side effects from hyperbaric oxygen therapy
- You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- You are unwilling to complete the full course of hyperbaric oxygen therapy
