Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have had their first stroke on one side of the brain, where the stroke occurred at least 3 months ago but no more than 3 years ago
  • People between 30 and 80 years of age
  • People whose affected arm has some remaining movement, as measured by a standard arm function test (a score above 10 on the Fugl-Meyer Upper Extremity scale)
  • People who do not have severe muscle stiffness in any part of the affected arm
  • People who are able to understand and follow instructions from the study team
  • People who can stand in a step position (one foot in front of the other) for at least 30 seconds
  • People who are able to walk at least 10 metres, with or without a walking aid
  • People who do not have severe vision problems or other major neurological conditions
  • People who are not taking part in any other research studies at the same time
  • People who are willing to give written consent to participate

Who may not be able to join:

  • People with an active, acute inflammation at the time of the study
  • People with serious medical problems or a poor physical condition that could make participation in the study harmful or unsafe
