Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People aged 18 years or older
  • People whose stroke severity score (called NIHSS) is 4 or higher, indicating a moderate to severe stroke
  • People whose brain imaging (using CTA, MRA, or DSA scans) has confirmed a blockage in a large artery in the brain
  • People whose brain scan shows enough healthy brain tissue remaining, based on a scoring system called ASPECTS or PC-ASPECTS (score of 3 or higher)
  • People who are being treated with a procedure to remove or dissolve the blood clot from inside a blood vessel in the brain, ideally within 8 hours of symptom start for front-of-brain strokes, or within 12 hours for back-of-brain strokes (those outside these time windows may still be assessed by the medical team using imaging)
  • People, or their legal representative, who have signed a consent form agreeing to take part

Who may not be able to join:

  • People with significant kidney problems, shown by blood creatinine levels more than twice the normal upper limit
  • People with serious heart or lung conditions that the study doctor considers would make participation unsafe, or people expected to live less than 3 months
  • People with a severe allergy to contrast dye used in medical imaging, or for whom this dye is not safe to use; also women of childbearing age who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or who test negative for pregnancy but are unwilling to use effective contraception during the study
  • People whose psychiatric, cognitive, or mood conditions would prevent them from completing the study
  • Anyone else the study doctor considers unsuitable for participation, for any other reason
