AI generated eligibility summary. Written by an AI model from the official source data and checked on a sample basis. It can contain mistakes, so confirm anything important against the original source. How we use AI

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People between the ages of 30 and 80 years old
  • People with a significant narrowing (70%–99%) of certain brain arteries, confirmed by a specialised X-ray procedure called DSA, that is causing symptoms
  • People who have had a mild stroke (with a low symptom severity score) within the past week, or a worsening of stroke symptoms, or a high-risk mini-stroke (TIA) within the past week
  • People whose affected artery measures between 2.0 and 4.5mm wide, with the narrowed section being no longer than 14mm
  • People who were able to carry out most daily activities independently before treatment (confirmed with a standard disability scale)
  • People whose brain scans show no large areas of damage (based on standard scoring systems used by doctors)
  • People who are able to give written consent, or who have a legally responsible person who can do so on their behalf

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have had an allergic reaction to contrast dye used in imaging procedures
  • People whose artery narrowing is caused by conditions other than a build-up of fatty deposits — for example, arterial tearing, Moyamoya disease, or inflammation of the arteries
  • People who have a specific type of small artery blockage next to the target artery (confirm with trial site)
  • People who have severe narrowing in the neck arteries on the same side as the artery being treated
  • People who have previously had an endovascular (minimally invasive, through a blood vessel) procedure on the same artery being considered for treatment
  • People who have brain aneurysms, brain tumours, or abnormal blood vessel formations in the brain
  • People who have had bleeding in the brain on the same side as the target artery within the past 3 months, or on the opposite side within the past 2 weeks
  • People who have atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat), serious heart problems, or significant liver or kidney disease — or people with a serious illness where life expectancy is estimated at one year or less
  • People with low red blood cell levels, low platelet counts, or blood clotting problems that cannot be corrected
  • People with blood pressure that cannot be brought under control (above certain thresholds)
  • People with poorly controlled blood sugar levels
  • People who have had major surgery in the 30 days before joining, or who have surgery planned within 90 days after joining
  • People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • People whom the research team considers unsuitable for the study for other reasons (confirm with trial site)
