- People who had a stroke at least 6 months ago and whose condition is now medically stable
- People who had a stroke on one side of the brain only, with just one stroke event (any type — whether caused by a blockage or bleeding — and any size may be considered)
- People who have some visible ability to bend or move their fingers, even slightly
- People who are able to give their own consent to participate
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have problems with vision, visual neglect (difficulty paying attention to one side), hearing, or thinking and memory
- People who are currently in the process of changing medications that affect muscle tone (for example, baclofen)
- People who have received botulinum toxin (such as Botox) injections into the arm or fingers within the last 4 months, or phenol injections within the last 2 years
- People who have a pacemaker, metal implants in their body, or who require supplemental oxygen
- People who have musculoskeletal conditions (problems with muscles, bones, or joints), including pain on the affected side of the body
- People who are pregnant
