Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged between 18 and 80 years old
- People who have been diagnosed with an acute ischemic stroke (a stroke caused by a blocked blood vessel) and have a stroke severity score of 6 or higher on a standard medical scale called the NIHSS
- People who can begin treatment within 8 hours of when their stroke symptoms started, or within 8 hours of the last time they were known to be well
- People who can begin treatment within 120 minutes of having a CT or MRI brain scan taken as part of their assessment
- People who were living independently before their stroke, with little to no disability (a score of 0 or 1 on a disability scale called the Modified Rankin Scale)
- People whose imaging confirms a blockage in a large blood vessel in the brain — either in the front part of the brain (certain arteries called the ICA or MCA) or the back part of the brain (vertebral or basilar arteries), confirmed by a detailed blood vessel X-ray called a DSA
- People who are considered suitable to receive a specific clot removal technique called ADAPT (Direct Aspiration First-Pass Technique), as determined by their treating doctor
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have bleeding inside the brain (intracranial hemorrhage)
- People whose brain scan shows a low early stroke damage score (an ASPECTS score below 6), suggesting a larger area of brain already affected
- People whose stroke is caused by a narrowing of blood vessels inside the brain due to a build-up of plaque (a condition called intracranial atherosclerotic disease)
- People who have more than one blockage, or blockages in connected blood vessels (multiple or tandem occlusions)
- People whose life expectancy is less than 6 months for any reason
