- People aged between 18 and 75 years, of any gender
- People who have osteoarthritis causing symptoms in the middle joint of a finger (the proximal interphalangeal joint)
- People who have been receiving medical treatment for functional symptoms for more than 3 months with no improvement, and whose doctor has determined that surgery is appropriate

- People who have epilepsy that is not well controlled, or a nerve condition that means a certain type of local anaesthetic cannot safely be used
- People who are in custody or detained by a court or government order
- People who are under a legal protection order or who are unable to give their own consent to participate
