Who might be able to join this trial:

Children and teenagers (ages 6–18):

• Children and teenagers between 6 and 18 years old at the time of joining the trial
• Asthma has been formally diagnosed by a doctor
• Other conditions that could explain the symptoms have been ruled out
• The child has been taking their medication as prescribed and has been shown the correct way to use their inhaler
• Breathing tests show either that the airways open up significantly after using a reliever (rescue) inhaler, or that the airways react strongly to certain triggers during a supervised breathing test

• Asthma has been poorly controlled in the past year, shown by: symptoms or use of a reliever inhaler 3 or more times per week, any limitation of activities due to asthma, any asthma symptoms during the night, at least one severe flare-up in the past year requiring steroid tablets for 3 or more days or a hospital stay, or reduced lung function shown on breathing tests
• A parent or legal guardian has provided written consent for the child to take part

Adults:

• Adults on a high level of asthma treatment, which may include: high-dose inhaled steroids combined with other long-term asthma medicines, steroid tablets taken for 3 or more months, or treatment with a biological medicine (monoclonal antibody injection)
• Adults on a medium-to-high dose of inhaled steroids combined with other long-term asthma medicines, AND whose asthma is still poorly controlled — shown by: symptoms or reliever use 3 or more times per week, activity limitations due to asthma, any night-time symptoms, at least one severe flare-up in the past year requiring steroid tablets for 3 or more days, or lung function below 80% of what is expected for that person

Who may not be able to join:

Children and teenagers:

• Children diagnosed with another lung condition affecting airflow or the whole body, such as cystic fibrosis or COPD (a lung condition called BPD may still be acceptable — confirm with trial site)
• Children with other lung conditions present from birth, or physical abnormalities of the lungs
• Children with other significant long-term health conditions
• Children with heart conditions present from birth or developed later that cause significant physical limitations
