Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are able to give their own consent to take part, or who have a legally authorised representative who can consent on their behalf
- People who are willing to complete questionnaires as part of the study
- People who are 65 years of age or older at the time of joining the study
- People who have been diagnosed with breast cancer confirmed by a tissue or cell sample, where the cancer tests negative for a protein called HER2, and the cancer has come back or has not responded to previous treatment
- People whose breast cancer has been tested for estrogen receptor (ER) and progesterone receptor (PR) status — any result (positive or negative) is acceptable
- People with invasive breast cancer that has not spread to other parts of the body (scans to confirm this are not required and are left to the treating doctor's judgement)
- People whose treating doctor has recommended a standard chemotherapy combination called TC (docetaxel and cyclophosphamide), either before or after surgery
- People with cancer in both breasts, or in multiple areas of the same breast, as long as both cancers test negative for HER2 and the treating doctor believes TC chemotherapy is appropriate for at least one of the cancers
- People who do not speak or read English, as long as interpreter services are available or the study surveys are available in their preferred language
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have already received any chemotherapy for their current breast cancer diagnosis
- People whose breast cancer has returned after previous treatment, or has spread to other parts of the body — though a previous separate breast cancer diagnosis (including a non-invasive type called DCIS) may be allowed if the treating doctor believes the current cancer is a new primary cancer rather than a recurrence (confirm with trial site)
- People who have previously had an allergic reaction to medications with a similar chemical or biological makeup to cyclophosphamide or docetaxel
- People who have previously been treated with the TC chemotherapy combination for a prior breast cancer
