Who might be able to join this trial:

For people who have experienced cortical blindness (vision loss from brain injury):

• You live in the United States or Canada
• You had a stroke or similar brain injury affecting the vision area of your brain, and it happened between the ages of 21 and 75 (confirmed by MRI and/or CT scan)
• You have a specific type of vision loss that affects the same side of your visual field in both eyes, measured by a standard vision field test
• You are able and willing to give your own consent to participate
• You can read and follow spoken and written instructions in English
• You either have naturally good distance vision or can wear contact lenses inside a virtual reality headset

For people in the healthy comparison group:

• You have normal vision or vision that is corrected to normal, and you are between 21 and 75 years old
• You are considered capable and responsible by the study team
• You are willing and able to give your own consent to participate
• You have normal thinking and reasoning abilities and can follow written and spoken instructions in English
• You either have naturally good distance vision or can wear contact lenses inside a virtual reality headset

Who may not be able to join:

For people who have experienced cortical blindness:

• You have never driven a car or never held a driver's license
• You have or have had an eye disease that affects your vision clarity
• Your best vision (even with glasses or contacts) is worse than 20/40 in either eye
• You have damage to a specific part of the brain that processes visual signals (called the dorsal lateral geniculate nucleus) (confirm with trial site)
• You have a condition causing widespread, ongoing deterioration of the brain
• You have brain damage that the study team believes could affect the study results
• You have a history of traumatic brain injury
• You have a documented history of drug or alcohol abuse
• You have been diagnosed with a cognitive disorder (such as dementia) or a seizure disorder (such as epilepsy)
• You have been diagnosed with a condition where you ignore one side of your surroundings (called one-sided attentional neglect) (confirm with trial site)

For people in the healthy comparison group:

• You have never driven a car or never held a driver's license
• Your best vision (even with glasses or contacts) is worse than 20/40 in either eye
• You have vision loss caused by an eye disease or disorder
• You have any area of your visual field that is missing or impaired
• You are unable to wear contact lenses inside the virtual reality headset if you need them to see clearly
• You have a history of any neurological disorder (a condition affecting the brain or nervous system)
• You have a history of traumatic brain injury
• You are unable to complete the vision tests as directed by the study team
