Who might be able to join this trial:
If you have ankylosing spondylitis:
- You are between 19 and 60 years old at the time of signing up
- You have been diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis based on recognised medical diagnostic criteria (confirm with trial site)
- You are willing to take part voluntarily, understand what the study involves, and agree to follow the study's guidelines
If you are a family member of someone with ankylosing spondylitis:
- You are between 19 and 65 years old
- You are a parent, brother, or sister of the patient, have never been diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis yourself, and currently live with the patient
- You are willing to take part voluntarily, understand what the study involves, and agree to follow the study's guidelines
Who may not be able to join:
If you have ankylosing spondylitis:
- You have taken antibiotic tablets or injections in the last 3 months
- You have taken probiotic or lactic acid bacteria supplements (such as certain health foods) in the last 3 months
If you are a family member of someone with ankylosing spondylitis:
- You have taken certain medications listed by the study within a set time period before sample collection (confirm with trial site for the specific medication list)
- You have received any vaccine in the last month (4 weeks) before sample collection
- You have used antibiotic or steroid creams or products on your face, scalp, neck, arms, or hands within 24 hours before sample collection
- You have used any vaginal or vulvar medications, including antifungal treatments, within 24 hours before sample collection
- You are currently unwell with a moderate or severe illness (though the study may allow you to wait until you recover before providing a sample)
- You have a long-term, significant health condition affecting organs such as the liver, kidneys, lungs, heart, digestive system, nervous system, immune system, or blood, or you have a history of cancer, a psychiatric condition, or substance misuse
- You have made major changes to your diet for rapid weight loss or gain within the 4 weeks before sample collection
- You have an uncontrolled digestive condition such as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome requiring medication, ulcers, or pancreatitis
- You require the use of nappies or incontinence pads due to bladder control difficulties
- A medical professional has identified any other condition that may affect the ability to provide samples (confirm with trial site)
