Who might be able to join this trial:
- People between the ages of 50 and 100 years old
- People diagnosed with mild Alzheimer's disease dementia, based on standard medical criteria, with memory and at least one other area of thinking (such as language or problem-solving) being notably affected
- People diagnosed with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) thought to be due to Alzheimer's disease, based on standard medical criteria, with some memory difficulties but still able to manage daily activities independently
- People who are healthy (no dementia or cognitive impairment) and are a similar age, education level, and gender to the Alzheimer's patients in the study
- People with certain ongoing health conditions that are permitted, including mild depression or anxiety (not requiring hospitalisation), high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart disease, asthma, acid reflux, thyroid conditions (treated), skin conditions, or eye conditions
- People currently taking certain medications, including antidepressants (SSRIs), cholesterol medications, blood pressure medications, thyroid medications, aspirin, vitamins, eye drops, and some others (confirm with trial site for full list)
- People with normal vision or vision that is fully corrected with glasses or contact lenses
- People who are not pregnant
- People who do not have metal implants in their head or any implanted electronic devices
- People without skin sensitivity or claustrophobia
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have previously had a stroke, traumatic brain injury, or any other brain or body condition that has permanently affected their thinking or memory
- People currently taking medications not listed as permitted (confirm with trial site)
- People who are pregnant
- People who have metal implants in their head or implanted electronic devices (such as a pacemaker)
- People with skin sensitivity that could be affected by the study equipment
- People with claustrophobia
- People with significant vision or hearing problems that would prevent them from understanding the consent process or completing the study tasks
