Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People aged 40 years or older
  • People who have 3 or more of the following stroke risk factors: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, irregular heartbeat or heart valve disease, a history of smoking, being significantly overweight or obese, low levels of physical activity, a family history of stroke, or a previous episode of a temporary stroke-like event (sometimes called a "mini-stroke")
  • People who are willing and able to give written consent to participate
  • People who are willing to complete all assessments and attend follow-up appointments throughout the trial
  • People who have sufficient vision and hearing to be able to complete memory and thinking tests

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have an allergy to nuts, berries, olive oil, or fish
  • People who have already been diagnosed with dementia
  • People where dementia is suspected following an assessment by the study doctor at the initial screening visit
  • People with a history of a serious head injury or any previous brain surgery
  • People with certain abnormalities in the brain, such as bleeding in or around the brain, or other growths or lesions inside the skull
  • People with movement disorders or mental health conditions that may affect the results of memory and thinking tests
  • People with severe loss of vision, hearing, or the ability to communicate
  • People with a serious cancer or other life-limiting illness where life expectancy is less than 3 years
  • People who are currently taking part in another clinical drug trial
  • People who have any condition or implant that makes having an MRI scan unsafe

People who may be removed from the trial after joining:

  • People who are found not to meet the inclusion criteria after joining
  • People who are unable to keep up with the requirements of the trial, do not attend follow-up appointments, or where the study doctor determines there is a safety concern
  • People who experience an adverse or serious adverse event during the trial, as judged by the investigator
