Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are 18 years old or older and have been diagnosed with pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) that is classified as moderately severe or severe based on a standard medical score measured at the time you were admitted to hospital
- Your pancreatitis has been confirmed through imaging (such as ultrasound, MRI, or CT scan) to be caused by gallstones or a problem with the bile duct
- You have started to recover from your pancreatitis, meaning you have been able to eat and drink for at least 24 hours without vomiting and your pain is at a manageable level (4 out of 10 or less on a pain scale)
- You are willing and able to give written consent to take part in the trial
Who may not be able to join:
- You are currently pregnant
- You have already had your gallbladder removed in the past
- You are already scheduled to have your gallbladder removed through open (non-keyhole) surgery
- You have developed serious complications from your pancreatitis before having keyhole gallbladder surgery, such as internal bleeding, a buildup of pressure in the abdomen, or a fluid collection around the pancreas that needed draining
- You have been diagnosed with long-term (chronic) pancreatitis
- You have had more than one episode of pancreatitis in the past
- You currently have an active cancer diagnosis
- You are experiencing septic shock (a life-threatening response to infection)
- You have a gallstone stuck in your bile duct that could not be cleared by a procedure called ERCP, or you experienced a tear or pancreatitis as a result of that procedure (confirm with trial site)
