Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 or older
- People who are currently hospitalised after having an ischemic stroke (a stroke caused by a blocked blood vessel) in a specific deep region of the brain supplied by the middle cerebral artery
- People whose stroke can be seen on an MRI scan
- People who are enrolled in the trial between 24 hours and 7 days after their stroke occurred
- People whose skull has an area near the temple that allows ultrasound waves to pass through clearly enough to image the relevant blood vessels
- People who have given their signed, informed, and written agreement to take part
- People who are covered by the French social security system (excluding AME, a specific state medical aid program)
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have had a stroke, or have a blocked artery, on the opposite side of the brain to the one being studied
- People who have a medical reason they cannot receive contrast-enhanced Doppler ultrasound, such as having an abnormal connection between the right and left sides of the heart, or severely high blood pressure in the lungs
- People who have a known allergy or sensitivity to SonoVue (a contrast agent used in ultrasound) or any of its ingredients, including sulfur hexafluoride
- People with high blood pressure that is not currently under control
- People with a serious breathing condition known as respiratory distress syndrome
- People who are under a legal guardianship or curatorship arrangement
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding (confirmed by a blood test during hospitalisation)
- People who have damaged or broken skin at the temple area where the ultrasound would be applied
- People who have had a heart attack or have unstable heart disease in the 7 days before joining the trial
