- You are a cancer patient who has had a surgery sample stored at the Rambam Pathology Department
- You have given written permission for your samples and information to be collected, stored, and used for future research through Rambam BioBank or Midgam
- You have been diagnosed with non-spreading (non-metastatic) esophageal cancer of a specific type or location (mid/Siewert 1/Siewert 2) and developed a leak after your esophageal surgery

Who may not be able to join:
- Patients whose cancer completely disappeared in response to treatment may not be eligible, because there would be no tumour tissue left in the surgery sample to analyse

To evaluate a correlation between microbial signature of esophageal cancer and post esophagectomy anastomotic leaks; To assess the possibility of mapping a specific microbiota profile as a risk factor for anastomotic leaks; To characterize the microbiota of esophageal cancer patients differentiating it by: - demographic criteria - tumor characteristics
