Who might be able to join this trial:
For people with anorexia nervosa (AN):
- You are female
- You are between 16 and 50 years old
- Your BMI is below 18.5 (which is considered underweight)
- You have been diagnosed with anorexia nervosa according to standard medical guidelines (ICD-10)
- You are currently being referred to a specialist inpatient programme for nutritional treatment of anorexia nervosa
- You are able to read and understand Norwegian questionnaires
For healthy comparison participants (control group):
- You are female
- You are between 16 and 50 years old
- Your BMI is between 18.5 and below 27 (considered a normal to slightly above normal weight range)
- You are able to read and understand Norwegian questionnaires
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a history of inflammatory bowel disease (such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis), coeliac disease, or have had surgery on your digestive system
- You have taken antibiotic tablets or capsules in the past two months
- You have been regularly taking high amounts of probiotic supplements (such as certain yoghurts or supplement capsules containing live bacteria) over the past two months
