Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have given written consent to participate
- People whose breast cancer has been confirmed through a tissue sample (biopsy)
- People with Stage II or IIIA breast cancer, where the tumor is at least 2cm on a specific type of MRI scan, and/or cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes (confirmed by testing)
- People whose cancer tests show a high level of a protein called HER2 on more than 10% of cancer cells (known as IHC 3+)
- People whose cancer has been tested for estrogen and progesterone receptors (hormone receptors), with results available
- People who are generally well enough to carry out daily activities with little or no limitation (confirm with trial site)
- People aged 18 or older
- People whose heart is pumping at 50% capacity or above, measured by a heart scan
- People whose doctors consider them suitable for treatment before surgery
- People whose recent blood test results show the bone marrow, liver, and kidneys are functioning at an adequate level
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who have had another cancer in the past, unless it was treated without chemotherapy or other systemic therapy and was more than five years ago
- People whose personal, family, social, or geographic circumstances may make it difficult to follow the trial schedule
- People who have recently taken certain medications that strongly affect how specific liver enzymes process drugs (confirm with trial site for specific medicines)
- People with a known long-term liver disease
- People with a history of inflammatory bowel disease or who have had part of their bowel surgically removed
- People who cannot have an MRI scan for any reason
- People with a specific type called inflammatory breast cancer, or whose tumor is classified as cT4 or cN3 (a more advanced stage)
- People whose breast cancer cannot be detected as a lump or mass (known as occult breast cancer, or cT0)
