Who might be able to join this trial:
For caregivers:
- People aged 21 or older, of any gender, who speak English
- People who have been assessed as cognitively intact (based on a standard screening test)
- People who provide unpaid care to someone living in the community who has dementia or cognitive impairment and also has a pain diagnosis
- People whose care recipient is not enrolled in hospice care
- People who visit the person they care for at least once a week
- People who can be reached by telephone
For patients (the person receiving care):

- People who have a recorded diagnosis of dementia or cognitive impairment
- People who also have a diagnosis of pain
- People who are responsive to their environment

For caregivers:
- People who are paid to provide care
- People aged 20 or younger
- People who do not speak English
- People who have cognitive impairment
- People who do not care for someone with dementia or cognitive impairment and a pain diagnosis
- People whose care recipient is enrolled in hospice
- People who visit the person they care for less than once a week
- People who cannot be reached by telephone
For patients:
- People living in a nursing home, assisted living, or other residential facility
- People enrolled in hospice care
- People without a diagnosis of dementia or cognitive impairment
- People who are unresponsive to their environment
- People with a terminal illness and a life expectancy of less than 6 months
- People currently undergoing active cancer treatment
