Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been newly diagnosed with a type of oesophageal (food pipe) cancer called squamous cell carcinoma, confirmed by a tissue biopsy, and have not yet received any treatment for it.
- People who have recently had or are currently having a camera examination of the upper digestive tract (a procedure to look inside the throat, stomach, and upper gut) and were found to have either a healthy upper digestive tract or a non-cancerous condition of the upper digestive tract.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have already received any treatment for their oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma, such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, surgery, or an endoscopic procedure to remove tissue.
- People who have been diagnosed with another type of cancer within the last five years.
- People whose oesophageal (food pipe) cancer is not the squamous cell type.
- People who have a condition called Barrett's oesophagus, which involves changes to the lining of the food pipe, whether or not it has progressed further.
- People who have previously had surgery to remove part or all of their food pipe or stomach.
- People who are unable to give written consent or do not have the capacity to agree to participate.
- People who are pregnant.
