Who might be able to join this trial:

This trial has three groups. You may qualify for one of them:

Group 1 – Breast cancer patients without significant arm/shoulder problems:

  • You have been diagnosed with breast cancer on one side of your body only
  • You had either a full breast removal or breast-conserving surgery, and had lymph nodes removed or checked under your arm
  • It has been at least 3 months since your surgery or radiation treatment
  • You are able to understand and communicate in Dutch
  • Your score on a standard arm/shoulder difficulty questionnaire is low (below 15 out of 100), meaning you have little to no arm or shoulder problems

Group 2 – Breast cancer patients with arm/shoulder problems:

  • You have been diagnosed with breast cancer on one side of your body only
  • You had either a full breast removal or breast-conserving surgery, and had lymph nodes removed or checked under your arm
  • It has been at least 3 months since your surgery or radiation treatment
  • You are able to understand and communicate in Dutch
  • Your score on a standard arm/shoulder difficulty questionnaire is higher (above 15 out of 100), meaning you do experience arm or shoulder difficulties

Group 3 – Healthy volunteers:

  • You are a healthy woman with little to no arm or shoulder problems
  • Your age matches a breast cancer patient already in the study
  • You are able to understand and communicate in Dutch

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have had surgery on both breasts, cancer that has spread widely to other parts of the body, or previous breast surgery before your current diagnosis
  • You have been diagnosed with a neurological condition (affecting the brain or nerves) or a rheumatological condition (affecting the joints or immune system)
  • Your arm or shoulder problems are caused by something other than your breast cancer treatment
  • (Healthy volunteers only) You have diabetes or any arm/shoulder difficulties
