Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with moderate-to-severe COPD (a serious lung condition), confirmed by specific breathing test results meeting GOLD Grade III or IV standards
- People who are older than 40 years of age
- People whose COPD has been stable for more than 4 weeks
- People who have not used short-acting bronchodilator (airway-opening) medications in the 24 hours before the trial, long-acting bronchodilator medications in the 48 hours before the trial, or steroid medications taken by mouth or injection in the past month
- People who have read, understood, and signed a consent form agreeing to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have asthma, active tuberculosis, interstitial pneumonia, or severe bronchiectasis (a separate lung condition)
- People who have serious other health conditions, such as active infection, diabetes, stroke, heart disease, liver or kidney problems, cancer, or autoimmune disease
- People with a history of ongoing or long-term diarrhoea or constipation
- People who have had surgery on any part of the digestive system (stomach, intestines, etc.)
- People who have used probiotics or antibiotics in the past 4 weeks
- People who have used oral steroid hormones or traditional Chinese medicine in the past 3 months
- People who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
