Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer that has come back in the prostate (after previous treatment), confirmed by a tissue biopsy, and where the cancer is limited to at least one side of the prostate, with matching biopsy and scan results from within the last 6 months
- People whose returned cancer can be identified and targeted on either a PSMA PET-CT scan or a specialised MRI scan
- People whose case is being considered for a type of internal radiation treatment called focal salvage brachytherapy
- People whose cancer lesion measures 3 cm or smaller at its widest point
- People whose tumour can be fully covered by the Alpha DaRT treatment seeds based on its location and size
- People whose PSA blood test level (measured before any salvage treatment) is below 10 ng/ml
- People aged 18 years or older
- People with a general health and activity level rated at 2 or below on the ECOG scale, meaning they are able to care for themselves even if unable to do heavy physical work (confirm with trial site)
- People whose life expectancy is expected to be more than 6 months
- People whose scans show no signs of cancer that has spread to other parts of the body, based on a CT scan and bone scan (or approved alternative scans) done within the past 3 months
- People with a platelet count of at least 100,000/mm³ (a measure of blood clotting cells)
- People who are willing and able to sign a consent form
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose cancer has spread to lymph nodes or other parts of the body
- People who have previously had a TURP procedure (a type of prostate surgery to remove tissue) or any other prostate surgery
- People who are unable to have a specialised MRI scan — for example, because they have a permanent implanted device that is not compatible with MRI
- People who are unable to have general or spinal anaesthesia
- People who have received hormone therapy (androgen deprivation therapy) or chemotherapy for prostate cancer within the 3 months before joining the trial
- People who have been diagnosed with another cancer within the past 3 years (excluding certain common skin cancers)
- People who have taken part in another interventional research study in the past 30 days that could affect the results of this trial
- People who the trial investigator believes are unlikely to be able to follow the trial requirements
- People who are not willing to sign a consent form
- People with serious other health conditions that the treating doctor believes could interfere with the trial results — for example, poorly controlled autoimmune diseases or vasculitis
