Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have moderate to severe persistent asthma
- People who are currently being treated with medium to high doses of inhaled corticosteroids (preventer inhalers) combined with a long-acting bronchodilator (LABA)
- People who have had three or more serious asthma attacks in the past year, where each attack required at least 3 days of steroid tablets or injections
- People aged 18 to 75 years old, of any sex, who speak English or Spanish
- People who have been medically stable for at least 4 weeks before joining — meaning no recent asthma attacks, infections, or changes to their asthma medications
- People already taking a biologic medication for asthma (such as omalizumab, mepolizumab, reslizumab, benralizumab, dupilumab, or tezepelumab), provided that medication was started at least 6 months before entering the trial
Who may not be able to join:
- People who currently have a substance use disorder, who currently smoke, or who have a smoking history of more than 10 pack-years across their lifetime
- People who are currently experiencing a major depressive episode, or who have a diagnosis of bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or schizoaffective disorder
- People with an intellectual disability or severe cognitive impairment, people who are currently incarcerated, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or women of childbearing age who are not willing to use trial-approved contraception or abstinence during the study
- People who are currently taking an antidepressant medication — although some exceptions may apply for certain medications prescribed for reasons other than depression at low doses (confirm with trial site)
- People considered at high risk for suicide, defined as having had more than one suicide attempt in their lifetime, or any suicide attempt within the past 12 months
- People with a severe or life-threatening medical condition that would make completing the trial unlikely, or who have significantly abnormal blood test or heart tracing (ECG) results at the start of the trial
